Dear Parent/Carer,

As I’m sure you are aware, all Level 3 post-16 courses are delivered via the Cynon Valley
Consortium (CVC). This is a consortium of three schools, namely Aberdare Community
School, Mountain Ash Comprehensive School and St. John Baptist Church in Wales High
School.

You and your child are invited to Aberdare Community School between 4.00pm and 6.00pm
on Tuesday 21st November where you will have the opportunity to find out more about the
sixth form options process and to meet with members of staff who deliver the post-16
courses across the 3 CVC schools.

The post-16 options process will again be online this year. A link to the CVC options website,
which contains details of courses that may be offered across the CVC in 2024-25, will be
available to pupils and their parents from the evening of Tuesday 21st November. The
website will also contain a link to an ‘initial free choice options form’ which will give pupils
the opportunity to tell us which subjects they may be interested in studying in 2024-25.
Pupils will be asked to choose 3 subjects, along with a reserve choice.

Following analysis of pupils’ initial choices, another options form will be distributed with
subjects arranged into a series of option blocks. At this stage, further details and guidance
will be provided with a view to ensuring that pupils make the right choices.
I am sure you will agree that this is a very important time in your child’s school life and I look
forward to seeing you at the options evening and to working with you over the coming
months to ensure he/she has a smooth transition to the sixth form.

Yours sincerely,
Mr. D Mead
Deputy Headteacher
